There is so much to see and do in London, it's a city that is vibrant and bustling. Unfortunately, we only had a short layover, so we didn't scratch the surface of all the things to do in the city. Here is our 30 hour re-cap.

Best Time To Go

The best time to visit London is summer when the sun is out and most days are warm. If you don't mind the cold and some rain, November and December are festive months of the year. These latter months, the Christmas lights begin to sparkle and the Christmas market begins in late November.

30 Hours in London With Kids

London Eye: one cannot go to London without experiencing the iconic ferris wheel. Pre-purchase tickets online and get an amazing view of the city.
Harry Potter Studio Tour: whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, this is a must see. The tour is surprisingly interesting for all ages, you won't be disappointed.
Hamley's: the oldest toy store in the world. With 7 floors of toys and even lego sculptures of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles, you should definitely swing by for a gander.
Piccadilly Circus: one of the most popular tourist destinations with neon signs, video displays, and lively atmosphere. Best to go in the evenings to capture the magic of the lights.
Shakesphere's Globe: though not the original theatre where Shakespeare wrote his plays, this reconstruction is well worth the hype. Take a guided tour and get transported back in time.
Walk around and explore: the best part of not having a plan is to just walk around the city and absorb the city vibes.

Wish List For Next Time

Tower of London: I love jewelry, so seeing the Crown Jewels is on the top of my list.
Borough Market: something about local public markets, the shop owners, and food always has me in a good mood. Check out this iconic gourmet food market, a foodie's paradise.
Tower Bridge: we saw the bridge from afar, but walking across the bridge just seems like something one must experience.

Where To Eat

Dishoom: don't leave London without trying the city's world class Indian food scene. Dishoom is a top notch Bombay cafe with beautiful decor and tasty food. Be prepared to wait in line.

Travel Tips

Consider taking a train into the city from Heathrow. We were tired and jet lagged so we opted for a traditional English black cab, however it will set you back $150 USD.
Summers are still chilly, so make sure you bring a sweatshirt or light jacket.
Pre-purchase tickets to the Harry Potter Studio Tour as soon as you know your travel dates, tickets go fast!

Bankside Hotel

This hotel is the epitome of modern luxury. There will be no stodgy ornate furniture in sight. Instead, the hotel has clean lines with modern retro furnishings. Bankside is within walking distance to Shakespeare's Globe, Borough Market, and London Eye, but still nestled in a quiet area. Service is excellent with front desk staff promptly offering coffee upon arrival and a children's activity map to keep them entertained during check in.

*We have stayed here and would return. Rooms are comfortable, the hotel decor is on point, and front desk is amazing.

Undeniably luxurious, this five star hotel is nothing but indulgent. The hotel is beautiful, with majestic black iron gates, ornate stone facade and timeless decor. Located near Covent Garden, the location is close to the British Museum, Royal Opera House and theaters. Service is impeccable, as to be expected with every Rosewood.

If a bit of whimsy is your cup of tea, Treehouse London may fit the bill. The decor of the hotel puts you at one with nature - birch trees in the bathrooms, natural wood furniture, and there is even a roof top bar (The Nest), that is perched atop the city and offers breathtaking 360 degree views. The hotel has a younger, more playful tone so may not be the best fit for those looking for a quiet respite.
